Service & Retreats

Faith in Action. Formation in Experience.

The world offers you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.

-Pope Benedict XVI, 2005 World Youth Day

In the Benedictine tradition of Ora et Labora, we live our faith through service, reflection, and community. Our service programs and grade-level retreats are essential to the spiritual formation of every student, offering real opportunities to grow in compassion, leadership, and personal responsibility.

Benedictine spirituality teaches us to seek God in work, community, and prayer. This rhythm shapes every retreat, every service hour, and every moment students spend giving of themselves.

Service to Others

Service is a formative act of faith, and becomes a habit of heart. Students are required to complete service hours as part of their graduation requirements, but more importantly, they are invited to discover the joy and humility of helping others.

Students serve through:

  • Assisting the monastic community with daily needs

  • Altar serving and helping lead worship

  • Mentoring younger students on campus

  • Volunteering with local organizations and nonprofits

Retreats

Each grade level participates in an annual retreat that meets students where they are academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Led by monks, faculty, and spiritual leaders, these retreats provide space for quiet reflection, peer connection, and personal growth.

  • Grade-specific themes designed to match stages of adolescent formation

  • Guided reflection, prayer, and conversation in a retreat-style setting

  • Monastic leadership and spiritual mentorship throughout

Retreats help students step away from the noise of daily life and listen more closely—to God, to each other, and to themselves.

Culture of Compassion

Subiaco’s commitment to spiritual formation includes caring for the whole student and their family. Inspired by our pro-life values, we offer compassionate support for families facing economic hardship or other challenges, including:

  • Tuition assistance and scholarships

  • Support for extracurricular activities and competitions

  • Emergency financial support when needed

Our approach affirms the dignity of every student and the strength of community support.
