Spiritual Life As A Daily Practice

Truth can only be found by those who seek it with all their heart.

-St. John Henry Newman, The Idea of a University

Faith life is a daily practice on the Hill. Guided by our Benedictine heritage, our liturgical practices invite students into a rhythm of prayer, reflection, and worship that deepens their relationship with God and with one another. Students are welcomed to join as many of these practices as they wish for a deeper spiritual life.

Daily Spiritual Practices

Students are immersed in a life of prayer that fosters stillness, gratitude, and spiritual maturity:

  • Daily Mass, available and celebrated with our monastic community

  • Communal prayer five times a day, available and celebrated with our monastic community

  • Eucharistic Adoration, within the church open throughout the day

  • Weekly confessions, available on campus

  • Compline night prayer, led by the monks at the end of the day

  • Sacramental preparation, for the Sacrament of Confirmation administered by the Bishop

  • Wednesday All-Academy Mass, uniting the school in shared worship

  • Sunday Conventual Mass with the monastic community

  • Student-led devotions such as rosary, bibles studies, and prayer services throughout the year

  • Annual Faith Leader, elected by students to assist the Chaplains in spiritual life and lead campus-wide devotions

Monastic Mentors

At Subiaco, our monks are more than teachers—they are spiritual mentors who walk alongside students in prayer, conversation, and worship. The monastic rhythm of ora et labora (prayer and work) provides a living example of how faith is integrated into daily life.

Student Leadership in Faith

Each year, the student body elects a Faith Leader to help guide spiritual activities and represent their peers in liturgical planning. This student-led model keeps our worship life vibrant, authentic, and meaningful to the community.

Though Subiaco is a Catholic school grounded in Benedictine tradition, we welcome students of all faith backgrounds. Our approach to liturgy and worship fosters a spirit of inquiry, hospitality, and shared purpose that encourages every student to grow spiritually, wherever they are on their journey.

Faith Beyond The Hill

Our students live out their beliefs through service, retreats, and acts of compassion that strengthen our community and their own spiritual journey. These experiences help young men grow in humility, deepen their purpose, and discover the joy of serving others.
