Alumni Spotlight: Steve Schmitz, Class of '91

Alumni Spotlight: Steve Schmitz, Class of '91

Q: What is your class year and how are you engaged with Subiaco today?

A: I graduated in 1991. Currently, I serve on the Foundation Board, the Finance Committee for the Academy, the Marketing and Enrollment Committee of the Academy, and an advisory committee member. I also help with alumni gatherings, camp marketing, and mentoring on marketing efforts.

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I manage Mesa Real Estate Partners. After graduating from Subiaco, I started in property management and expanded into real estate brokerage, consulting, and real estate developments. Also, I have experience in the oil and gas industry through service companies, mid-stream companies, and upstream companies.

Q: How has Subiaco contributed to your life and career?

A: Subiaco is my foundation for everything - my faith, career, and character. It is like a second family that has shaped my values and provided lifelong connections through its strong alumni network.

Q: What do faith, scholarship, brotherhood, and character mean to you?

A: At Subiaco, these four values are deeply interconnected. The Benedictine monks taught me about the depth of our faith, academic discipline, and strong character. The brotherhood I formed with classmates has lasted decades, and the values I learned continue to guide me.

Q: What advice do you have for current and future Subiaco students?

A: Remember that life is a marathon, not a sprint. Be patient, let Subiaco work in your life, and understand that God doesn't work in instant gratification. Stay connected to the Subi network and be open to the opportunities and growth that comes with the Subi family.

Q: Why should families consider Subiaco for their sons?

A: Subiaco offers an incredible opportunity that extends far beyond the four years of high school. If students are willing to invest in their experience and stay connected, it can be a transformative journey that impacts their entire life.
